Modest fashion is slowly on the rise in the global fashion industry, and for Fall 2019, Greta Constantine designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong are following in suit. Influenced by their recent visit to Dubai, the duo combined the elegance and primness they saw in the Middle East with the glamour and maximalism happening in today’s Western fashion. This resulted in a monument of a collection of modest dressing—long silhouettes, old-school elegance, a mixture of various textiles, and more. There were instances wherein one couldn’t distinguish if the look was daywear or eveningwear, and probably those who’ll wear them won’t even care. A shimmering velvet maxi dress with 40s-esque sleeves, for example, is the perfect ensemble to wear to an evening gala. But bearing in mind Middle Eastern references, this dress can also work as a modest outfit on the street. In terms of color, Pickersgill and Wong stayed within a glimmering palette of neutral tones. It was a flowing red pantsuit that provided a much-need slight pop of color in this line. Now, the question remains: will customers buy into the modest fashion phenomena? Only time can tell!
