Who would have thought Ganni and urban utilitarianism can go hand-in-hand? Before Spring 2019, no one who knows the brand by heart would have ever associated the two together. But for this season, Ditte Reffstrup decided to venture away from her signature frilly femininity into a more streetwise and edgier look. Inspired by both her teenage years and the brand’s new collaboration with sportswear label 66 North, the Ganni girl this season was a bit harder than usual. Make no mistake, the delicate femininity was still there, but instead of flouncy florals and body-hugging silks, there were muted leathers, full-on denim separates, and slinky parkas. A few lace pieces here and there was convincing enough to let everyone know that Reffstrup was still as girly as ever, but this time, she also has a new edge that’s completely compelling.
