Who would have thought that Fendi would one day go down the streetwear path? But that is exactly what the fashion world saw during the label’s spring 2019 show in Milan. Make no mistake, however, because this Italian brand’s own take on streetwear is still as luxurious and sophisticated as ever. Translucent vinyl coats with brown leather pockets, full-on denim looks, tight-waisted oversized separates, and their classic Baguette bags transformed into fanny packs. The neutral color palette gave it a uniquely mature edge. There was elegance but also utility, youth yet utterly refined. These are the polar opposites both Silvia Venturini Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld managed to successfully merged together. And it’s important to note, they’re both veterans in the fashion game.
