Fausto Puglisi appreciates powerful women and their style. They may come with blue blood, as with his muses Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis and Bianca Brandolini d’Adda, or the trailblazers of the 80s such as supermodels Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell. His Pre-Fall 2019 offering was rife with both references, playing with the shapes and styles that veteran couturiers Azzedine Alaia and Christian Lacroix introduced back in that memorable decade. The skin-tight cocktail dresses and evening gowns were clearly inspired by Alaia but shown here with a sort of youthful edge that was more rock’n’roll than simply rococo. Puglisi also played with the pouf silhouette, made famous by Lacroix, but made it a stiffer and more architectural shape than the original frou-frou style. Made out of leather and crisp cotton, these dresses allowed women to show off their gorgeous legs for all the world to see. Similarly to his contemporaries, Fausto Puglisi has a knack for re-interpreting past styles to today’s modern standards, but unlike many of the others, he’s also able to make all his own with such confidence and sex appeal!
