Italian fashion houses are known to be eternally inspired by their own home, whether it’s Dolce & Gabbana tributes to Sicily or Versace celebrations of Milan nightlife. In Etro, the same can be said for Veronica Etro’s womenswear, but not necessarily for Kean Etro’s menswear. His spring 2019 collection goes beyond the Mediterranean and explores the East, inspired by Asia’s practices for peace and serenity. This time, the colors were far more soothing and toned-down than their usual use of bright hues. The soft-tailored silhouettes, referencing traditional Japanese garments, were refreshing to see in a city known for such rigid tailoring. Subsequently, The label’s signature paisley motifs were replaced by Indonesian prints that added a more exotic feel. It’s often difficult to succeed in fashion in Italy, yet Kean Etro managed to easily stand out with this excellent menswear offering.
