Ermenegildo Zegna is one of those fashion houses that have a rich history that defined what menswear is today. They’re a leading brand known for their fine tailoring and expert skills in cutting. But for spring 2019, creative director Alessandro Sartori chose to veer slightly away from that past but also paid tribute to it. What resulted was a parade of suit-like outfits, none of which were proper suits to begin with. The tailoring on this wild array of separates was a lot more relaxed, giving off a more youthful vibe than usual. Satori also ventured into athleisure a bit, trotting out luxurious-looking tracksuits in the most vibrant colors. And speaking of colors, there was certainly no scarcity of it on this runway, from the muted neutrals to the vivid shades of Tuscan yellow, cobalt blue, and magenta. Ermenegildo Zegna has already done so much for menswear fashion, and this show proved that maybe it’s time to go in a new and exciting route.
