Before romantic elegance became the new norm on many designer catwalks these days, Erdem Moralioglu embraced this style on his own. Throughout the more minimal and streamlined moments in fashion history, Erdem stayed headstrong in always laying out an opulent and exuberant narrative in his collections. For Fall 2019, he takes on the late Principessa Orietta Doria Pamphilj as his muse—the exiled Italian noble who went from being one of Rome’s most celebrated socialites to one of London’s most enigmatic residents. Here, he combined the extravagance of that past, such as voluminous florals and Chantilly lace, with a more modern attitude by way of pussycat bows and sharp tailoring. The result was Renaissance-like romance that was both alluring and overwhelming, but that’s just standard Erdem. To this day, he remains unabashed in focusing on romantic and often vintage themes, and it’s this sort of strong identity that separates him from the rest of the fahsion world!
