Kym Ellery is one of those designers that prefer to look forward with her clothes rather than backward. Even when she’s referencing an art piece made in the 1970s, her collection still looks like it’s fit for the 2070s. For spring 2019, inspired by the 1970 art installation “The Ice is Melting” by Paul Kos, Ellery clothed her girls with as much modern punch as possible. Architectural silhouettes, state-of-the-art draping, and pieces with a surrealist graphic print were all at offer this season. Her electric color palette was also exhilarating. But if there’s one piece that shows how forward-thinking Ellery really is as a designer, it’s the shimmering silver metallic coat that’s fit for a space princess.
