It’s a feat for any designer to turn a retro style into something contemporary. But that what Kym Ellery did for her resort 2019 collection. At first sight, the styling suggested the mod era of the late 60s well into the 1970s. Upon close inspection, however, there were several elements that nodded to various eras: the corsetry of the turn of the century, the structured silhouetted of the 1940s, and the skin-tight approach of the 1990s, just to name a few. Now that the likes of Rihanna and Elle Fanning are known fans of Ellery, it’ll be interesting to see which style befits one and the other. Those two stars are completely different, and if both are buying Ellery Paris, it won’t be long until many more women will too.
