Mediterranean women, whether from the European side or the Middle-Eastern side, are sensual yet sophisticated women. These were the muses that couturier and red carpet master Elie Saab grew up with, and they’re the ones that inspired his Spring 2019 Haute Couture collection as well. Although it was the usual parade of Oscar-worthy dresses, with a few hints of embellished pantsuits for variety, there was a new sense of sexiness that’s sort of new within his usual gown-centric language. High slits, cut-outs, micro-minis with long trains, and overly-sequined and jeweled pieces all had a certain kick to them that didn’t necessarily scream Hollywood, but are likely to be worn by its A-listers as well. It’s exciting to see Saab go a more confident look this season, but the real stars will always be those red carpet-ready numbers and the show-stopping bridal gown that usually closes the show.
