If it weren’t for the 1990s, Dion Lee’s spring 2019 show would have been a lot more scintillating than sexually enticing. A lot of the looks he sent out the runway, particularly the first few deconstructed jackets and the interestingly-cut cocktail dresses, were actually Lee’s experiments into creating new and exciting fashions. But because of the lace, the sheer, and the netting, they all appeared to be classic codes of female sexuality. The show was a sort of flashback into the underground sex days of Jean Paul-Gaultier and Helmut Lang. But while their women were all about exploring sex, Dion Lee’s ladies for spring 2019 are all about exposing their feminine power.
