Carly Cushnie debut solo show in Spring 2019 New York Fashion Week was a celebration of her own Caribbean origins. One can see that the designer was in her element, trotting out a diverse collection of sexy cocktail wear in the most vivid colors. The bursts of lemony lime green and shocking pink were as electric as the Reggae culture she referenced. While the ocean blues and the neutrals that followed evoked a calm seaside atmosphere. There was an unapologetic confidence in the clothes, especially the way they hugged the female form, particularly the plus-sized ones. If this show was any indication of things to come, then it’s safe to expect that Cushnie without Ochs will be just as chic as ever.
