It’s not enough to present a minimalist collection to become a palette cleanser in this maximalist streetwear atmosphere. Designers have to show some depth to their work in order to be taken seriously. Fortunately, that’s just what Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant did with their latest Fall 2019 line for their newly-relaunched brand, Coperni. Here, they took on standard stylish tropes such as pantsuits and outerwear and slightly turned them on their heads. Case in point, a superbly structured jacket with a rather round-ish shape—incredibly unique in its curvaceous finish. An A-line skirt layered fabrics one on top of each other to create a vortex-like form to it. Though fascinating, it was also slightly unsettling in the best possible way. And what of that liquid-looking silver metallic tank top with one side that’s off-the-shoulder? Sexually subversive in a rather sophisticated way. Though intellectually challenging, these are the clothes that deserve our focus and attention. And come fall, they’ll deserve our money too!
