The pressure to be a sustainable brand is getting to a lot of designers lately. It has even pushed Hillary Taymour to publicly admit her environmental faults during her Fall 2019 show in New York Fashion Week. Through her show notes, she emphasized that it’s difficult to adapt to a more sustainable lifestyle, and even more so for one’s own brand to do the same. The soundtrack of the show was even that of an environmental lecture from environmental activist and hip-hop artist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez. But if there was a clear message that collection had, it’s that Collina Strada is committed to becoming a sustainable label from that point on. This was evident in many of the clothes in the collection. most of which were made out of recycles materials. From the slouchy knits and oversized outerwear to the tie-dye pieces and shimmering silk cocktail frocks, each look was more environment-friendly than the next. Design-wise, this was a more mature outing from Taymour than one would expect. It looks like this change will have a big impact on the brand for seasons to come!
