Glamour in the 90s was so striking that one can’t help but get inspired by it, even for Pre-Fall 2019. Fashion can’t fault designer Jane Siskin for channeling Tom Ford or Gianni Versace this year because these icons changed the game during this electric era. This season, Cinq à Sept is all about the contrasts of textures and sihouettes—shiny vs. matte and slinky vs. tailored. It’s the juxtaposition of such opposites that made the 90s the fashion template it is now, and in this new era of maximalism, this is all the more relevant. With her use of peacock blue silks, one can’t help but harken back to the sex-driven days of Gucci by Tom Ford, yet the ruffles on the sleeves and the pussycat bows also channel the retro-loving renegades of today. A few oversized pieces, particularly a puffer coat and a brick-colored denim jacket, are also more in line with today’s streetwear sensibilities. This mish-mash of past and present isn’t uncommon in fashion nowadays, but the focus on glamour and ostentatious fabulosity are what will get women of all ages running to buy every piece!
