Chrisitan Siriano is sending his glamorous women to a ball in the distant future for Fall 2019. From glimmering metallics to rigid shapes, the designer and recently-turned “Project Runway” judge stayed true to his tried and tested ballgown theatrics, but here were laid out with a certain vigor that was less expected. In essence, these are fabulous party clothes, made more valuable to the fact that all women of shapes and sizes can wear them with ease. But in terms of cohesion, this is where the show fell apart. It started with Chanel Iman in a tragic faux fur coat that, while ironically inspired by a space-aged future, looked as if it hadn’t seen the light of day from the attic. This was one of Siriano’s haphazard attempts to go beyond his occasion-wear signature and slightly delve into streetwear with, unfortunately, unfavorable results. A shimmering silver puffer jacket looked awkward in both shape and construction, while a strapless slipdress was simply unflattering. Other tailored pieces were exquisite, however, and in terms of foregoing the ball gowns, these are the pieces women should go for. And while the Hollywood A-listers will be calling for a few of the numbers here for the red carpet, the rest should stay in the distant future!
