There’s a reason why Chanel is still one of the biggest brands in fashion today. Girls of any age continue to embrace the carefree French style that is at the heart of the century-old fashion house. And for spring 2019, that signature aesthetic was on full display at their colossal beachfront-inspired show in Paris, complete with actual water waves. Creative director Karl Lagerfeld sent out 83 looks of Chanel staples turned into cheeky and girlish beachwear. The house’s classic tweeds, woven in pretty pastels, were made into mini skirt-suits and cocoon-shaped coats that can be worn over bikinis. A section devoted to denim was all about the nonchalant coolness associated with the French Riviera. Even the pairing of scuba-knit bottoms with Chanel jackets was tongue-in-cheek but entirely familiar. On that fateful day, the house of Chanel made an important statement: fashion is still all about having fun!
