Chanel is a house that’s intrinsic with the French identity. Even one wears it to other fashion capitals or equally-luxurious destinations around the world, the look will always harken back to Paris. This was beautifully proven by the house’s Spring 2019 haute couture show, which was set against a backdrop of an Italian villa complete with swimming pool in the middle of the runway. But while the set evoked first-class Mediterranean relaxation, the clothes were as French as ever before. The Iconic Chanel suit made countless appearances, both in the standard boxy shapes as well as in long and leisure silhouettes. Aside from their classic black-and-white colorway, a series of candy-like pastels took on a more youthful aesthetic, which surprisingly worked well with the decades-old classic codes of the house. A sense of extravagance also came in the more frou-frou looks, complete with pleated silk and embroidered flowers, that were slightly inspired by the Rococo era. the show stood as testament to the timeless appeal of the Chanel look, and the even when they touch upon centuries old styles, the result will forever look relevant, chic, and desirable!
