Canali’s Fall 2019 Menswear Collection was an array of stylish basics and classics—a result of the tumultuous time the famous brand is currently facing. In a surprising move, the Canali seasonal presentation was moved back to Florence, returning to their home territory at Pitti Uomo. As of this moment, the label is having a “back-to-basics” cleansing of sorts, and instead of a designer-led collection, this was an offering made by the design team. While there wasn’t anything new nor interesting in this line, it was gratifying to see how well the brand has preserved its grasp of old-school sophistication. The tailoring here was as precise as ever, from the sportier anoraks to the English check coats. The pants, on the other hand, had new ease to them that was slightly freer, but nevertheless, were still fit to perfection. Here’s to hoping, however, that this grand staple in Italian men’s fashion will get back on its feet in the coming seasons!
