Description
Sportswear has come a long way since its dawn in the 80’s and 90’s. Now, even high fashion designers, acclaimed by the most famous publications and worshipped by the wealthiest of clients, are venturing into sportswear. Raf Simons is considered to be a pioneer of such a movement, a title he proves with his latest 205W39NYC Carlos 10 sneakers for Calvin Klein. The 1980’s and 1990’s were interesting times in the history of the retail industry.  High fashion labels and sportswear brands alike were gaining momentum, both the help of supermodels and superstar athletes. But as both markets saw skyrocketing sales and commercial success, they were hardly in the same breath in the eyes of the consumers. However, in this day and age, the line between sportswear and high fashion has completely disappeared. Just take a look at Calvin Klein’s 205W39NYC Carlos 10 Trainers sneakers.

Release Date: April 2018
Retail Price: US$793.00

The New York brand’s new sportswear line was created by its current creative director Raf Simons. The Belgian designer has often dipped his toes in sportswear, sneaker culture, and athleisure, even though he’s very much revered among the high fashion elite. Released last April 2018, the sneakers have become an instant favorite among Calvin Klein’s loyal and new clientele. And since they come from one of the most luxurious fashion labels in the world, it’s no surprise that each pair costs a whopping $793.

Pros

If there’s one thing Raf Simons is known for, it’s for the complexity in his designs. Be it a dress, a suit, or a pair of sneakers, all of his work are as puzzling as the designer himself. For the 204W39NYC Carlos 10 trainers, the complexity is found through the variety of materials used to construct the piece. The shoes’ upper both contain leather and suede, while the sockliner is made out of neoprene for a more comfortable fit. The sneakers also come in either high-top or low-top, with the former offered in a stake orange orange-red-gray-black colorway and the latter comes in a slightly more startling green-pink-gray-black color scheme.

Cons

Calvin Klein’s 205W39NYC Carlos 10 trainers are as chunky as chunky shoes get. With all the materials and craftsmanship done to construct the footwear, they become most evident with the bulky and (at times) unflattering silhouette. In addition to that, the shoes are also said to be quite heavy considering all the featured provided in it. This makes the shoes unfit for highly-strenuous activities but may also prove to be problematic during normal exercises like jogging.
