Sophistication is key to a good luxury timepiece. Even with all the technological advancements and innovative function on sees in watches nowadays, if it doesn’t have the sophistication, it won’t draw in clients. Fortunately, the world of haute horology has as much great-eyed designers as they do genius engineers. With bold creativity, they transform any new timepiece into a luxurious work of art. A prime example is Breitling new Navitimer model, the 8 B01.

Introduced just last January 28, 2018, Breitling’s Navitimer 8 B01 shook the watchmaking industry. It was a surprise release that no one was expecting from the Swiss luxury label, especially since the company just had a few important personnel changes. Under their new leadership (Georges Kern of Richemont-fame), this new timepiece is their first release this year, which was a bit earlier than expected since Baselworld was held two months later in March. At $8,080 a piece, the Navitimer 8 B01 is one of the most expensive new watches of this year.
- Diameter: 43mm

- Power Reserve: 70 hours

The timepiece boasts a certified chronometer, making it an official chronograph recognized by the Swiss watchmaking industry and the world of haute horology. Its in-house Breitling 01 movements harken back to the classic watches from the beloved brand’s range of the famous Navitimer model. Enthused with such sophistication, the dial is black matte contrasted with eye-catching white Arabic numerals—a color scheme known as the “reverse panda.” Packed with a shimmering silver steel case and bezel that encases the timepiece and is aided by a screw-locked crown, the timepiece evokes elegance with every shine.
In the luxury watchmaking industry today, sleek and lightness are the names of the game. Both of which, unfortunately, does not describe this new timepiece from Breitling. With a 43 millimeter case, the new Navitimer 8 B01 is said to be one of the Swiss luxury watch manufacturers bulkiest timepieces. It’s also regarded as a heavy timepiece, requiring strong wrists and arms to be able to wear such a piece. In response, Breitling has already announced that sleeker and smaller versions of the model will be released within the year. And when that happens, only time will tell how the original release of the Navitimer 8 B01 will perform commercially.
