We know of male icons that have changed the beauty community for good. We’re talking about big names like Patrick Starrr, Wayne Goss, Jeffree Star, and Bretman Rock who all have inspired the world to have a limitless perspective of beauty.

Luxury beauty brands have picked up on this transformative and inspirational trend, acknowledging that makeup isn’t only for women. Sure, there have been many attempts by high-end labels in the past to provide beauty products for men, including Clinique and Tom Ford. Yet for Chanel, it the first time it will officially venture into men’s beauty products.

While men have long been using any Chanel product to give their beauty a boost, the newest men’s line of makeup have been formulated to match men’s skin types perfectly. Getting its name from the muse and first love of Coco Chanel, Boy Capel, Boy de Chanel reminds us of the unisex fragrance and signature handbag bearing the name Boy as well.

The line is composed of three interesting products: an eyebrow pencil available in four shades, amatte lip balm, and liquid foundation that’s tinted in eight shades. The foundation is added with SPF 25 and hyaluronic acid to bring in protection and nourishment to the skin.

Not of gender, but of style

While many raised their eyebrows on the brand’s newest line, and while the brand harnessed a few negative comments, it stands by the premise it has set for the line. Chanel believes that “beauty is not a matter of gender, it is a matter of style,” and the men’s makeup line it released is an embodiment of that belief.

We look back to the way Gabrielle Chanel took inspiration from men’s wear to create loveable pieces for women. But it this case, it’s the other way around. The world of beauty for women is now lending its creativeness and aesthetic to influence and improve men’s beauty lines and products.

The Legacy Brand

The momentous move by Chanel puts it on the map as a legacy brand to pioneer the creation of a makeup line especially for men. Yet this doesn’t only have an effect to the brand but the whole makeup community as well, as other luxury brands and companies will surely follow suit. We’re excited for what’s next, but for now, we’ll just enjoy and take in all the beauty of Boy de Chanel.
