Tomas Maier always had a meticulous approach to designing for Bottega Veneta. He understands that the clients want his brand of strict and sharp tailoring, but can also handle a little fluidity. This juxtaposition led to the conception of Bottega Veneta’s resort 2019 collection—ultimately Maier’s final outing for the brand. Oversized sweaters were paired with structured silk taffeta skirts and precisely cut jackets and coats were worn with freeform dresses. These polar opposites blended well together through the decisive use of wintry pastels and the autumn colors of amber, scarlet, and juniper green. With its rustic elegance, the collection celebrated what had been a fruitful tenure between an undoubtedly creative designer and the fashion house he helped raise into an empire.
