Timepieces not only tell you the time, but some models show the date of the day as well. It’s a unique and innovative feature makes it easier for people to really know exactly what time and date they’re in, and easily change it when they travel to different time zones. One of the most famous of such watches is Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms range, which just debuted a “Grande Date” version.

With a much bigger size, the Gdand Date watch required a much bigger price as well. The Swiss luxury watch brand’s new model costs a whopping $17,500 per piece, making it one of their most expensive products to date. It was first introduced back in March 2018 during the famous Baselworld watch convention and show.

Whether you’re a few steps apart from the piece or it’s on the wrist, the massive diameter of the model makes it easier for clients observe its functions and overall majesty. From the dial to the bezel, all the important numerals are as clear as day, especially since they’re quite big because of the size of the watch. Not to mention its pièce de résistance: the grade date windows on the six o’clock. Usually, the Fifty Fathoms models have their dates on the four o’clock part, but the date is pushed to more prominence at the bottom-most side of the dial.
Even though the watch boasts a massive dial, this element might actually be the model’s downfall. Today’s upscale clients want sophisticated design and convenient functions in equal measure when it comes to modern timepieces, and while the latter is quite evident, the former leaves a lot to be desired. Aesthetics-wise, a big watch is not as refined-looking for many as the brand might want, but to each his own.
