Benefit Cosmetics has its own “holy trinity” in the form of its three flagship mascaras. In the past we’ve already reviewed two of them: the BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara (review here) and the They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara (review here). Now, we want to complete the set by taking on the brand’s Roller Lash Curling Mascara.
In contrast to BADgal BANG’s spiky edgy look and They’re Real’s elegant chrome, the Roller Lash Curling Mascara is “the cute one.” With its salmon-colored cap and the diamond print embedded onto it, the Roller Lash evokes a bygone vintage era for adorable effect.
But enough about the packaging. Does this mascara actually work well? Yes, definitely. This mascara’s emphasis on lash curling and lifting really works in its favor. Without having to do too much, it’s able to really give one’s lashes a fully dramatic look. It doesn’t just hold the lashes; it creates an even more lifted curled look that makes the lashes pop. Besides the advertised curling effect, this mascara also gives the lashes a little bit of lengthening, just so the lifted look is even more wispy and delicate. Finally, this mascara is water-resistant, so while it lasts a long time—through rain and tears—it’s also not too painful to remove, unlike many waterproof mascaras.
Probably our biggest gripe with this mascara is that it doesn’t really match its curling or lengthening with a good dose of volumizing to even everything out, but hey, one product can’t really have everything, can it? We also don’t like that the formula doesn’t layer very well, clumping if you apply multiple coats of the stuff.
In summary, we really, really like this mascara. It’s just so effortless at creating an enivably dramatic look that makes your eyelashes (and the eyes as a whole) pop. This mascara definitely gives its sister product’s, Benefit’s BAGdal BANG! And They’re Real! a run for their money.
