When designers want to refine their sportswear, they often go the classic route. Fortunately, not Astrid Andersen. In her latest Fall 2019 Menswear show, she offered her own take on sophisticated sportswear by softening her silhouettes and taking on fascinating graphic prints. In the world of male fashion, nothing screams sophistication quite like silk pajama dressing, which in this instance was made with nylon for that easier and much sportier glow. A monochrome set of vertically-striped cerulean separates had an almost vintage look to it that was particularly novel, but extremely modern nonetheless. Multi-colored houndstooth cut into hoodies, anoraks, and wide tracksuit pants were also elegant highlights that leaned on old-school sophistication with a contemporary edge. Despite the refinement in most of the looks, however, the addition of wide-brim hats and borderline tacky fur coats were completely unnecessary. There’s art in subtlety, and while design-wise Andersen has mastered it, styling the show still proves to be quite a challenge for her!
