It was as personal as it gets with Ashish Gupta at his Fall 2019 show during London Fashion Week. His main inspiration this season was the crocheted blanket—knitted by his grandmother—that he wrapped himself around with when he recently got the flu. And so, an array of colorful crocheted pieces dominated his fall runway. But upon further inspection, one would see that the crocheting wasn’t made out of the ordinary knit and wool. Each of those multi-colored garments was actually a multitude of sequins, stitched together to form the allusion of a crocheted blanket. Ashish has the special ability to always inject sparkle in his designs, even when the principal idea didn’t necessarily merit them. The stark colored stripes that succeeded had their own fair share of sparkles, which were as brilliant as ever against the runway lights. Such is the optimism of his collection, and that whatever narrative he touches upon, will always look sparkly and shiny to anybody and everybody!
