It’s a shame that many designers today have lost their sense of humor in fashion. With the world the way it is today, those kinds of quirks are surely welcomed! Fortunately, there’s still Kunihiko Morinaga and his sense of humor was so apparent this season. His Fall 2019 collection for Anrealage was all about zooming into clothes—almost in a literal sense—through the lens of social media. But what did that exactly look like? Big proportions, exquisite draping, and impressive tailoring all rolled into one avant-garde parade! Enlarged gloves and sweater sleeves turned into dresses, classic patterns like houndstooth and plaid deconstructed in a way onto a large garment, such fine oversized knitwear, and so on. Camp yet charming, these were interesting narratives on today’s society without look too preachy and intellectual. Though we’re not sure how well they’ll sell, they still look great and impactful! And most of the time, it’s all that matters!
