Each season, Anna Sui sets to create her own paradise with her clothes. For spring 2019, this paradise has gotten a lot more glamorous. Unsurprisingly, there was a retro feel to her New York Fashion Week show, but this time, it was difficult to pinpoint the exact era it referenced. There were nods to Schiaparelli’s surrealist 40s, some looks inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s defiant 70s, even a few takes on Marc Jacobs’ funky 90s. Yet with all these references floating about, trust Anna Sui to make it all harmonious and contemporary. Despite the vintage vibes, these clothes were obviously for the young (and young-at-heart) women of today that strive to live in such a colorful paradise.
