Sébastien Meunier is continuing his romantic yet melancholic narrative from his Ann Demeulemeester spring 2019 menswear show. This time at the Spring 2019 Womenswear, he chose l’Inconnue de la Seine, the famously beautiful death mask, as his muse. Thus began the parade of lace-veiled women dressed in floaty silks and structured jackets with a few harnesses in between. This outing is even much more severe with the sharp tailoring and the graphic stripes that appeared in some looks. However, it is also more emotional with the liquid-like dresses that wafted after. In contrast to the many designers that have gone brash and political, Sébastien Meunier’s Ann Demeulemeester put forth a combination of tragedy, beauty, love, and loss.
