Vivienne Westwood, with all her history of punk street style and deconstructed elegance, inspires people to go above and beyond in creating groundbreaking fashions. For spring 2019, Andreas Kronthaler did just that for his collection under the Grand Dame’s name. Here, he trotted look after look of eclectic and electric streetwear, some coupled with a quirky sense of avant-garde. A number of models came wheeling down the runway with skateboards, wearing eye-popping pieces that fit well with their cool and youthful, nonchalant vibe. In between them came, riding on electric scooters, beefed-up bodybuilders in signature codes of feminine dressing. It was a taste of irony that was well within the identity of Vivienne Westwood herself. Of course, it wouldn’t be an Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood show without a bit of crazy, which is why the chair-for-a-hat look and the outfit made completely out of filled-up sacks looked entirely normal. It’s certainly a grand world Andreas Kronthaler is living in, and for one brief moment, he invited the entire industry into it.
