These days, haute couture is often mistaken as occasion-wear, and one of the many designers who’ve perpetuated this is Alexis Mabille. His fall 2018 haute couture collection further pushes this stereotypical “elegant evenings” narrative, sending out a parade of satin dresses and tulle ball gowns in the most titillating pastels of pink, lilac, and sky blue. But in his ultra-glamorous and highly-feminine show was also a different woman: one who’d trade in an evening gown for a well-tailored suit. Taking a page out of Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel’s playbooks, Mabille put forth a few tuxedo-esque looks that any powerful woman can don. In fact, even his bride preferred to wear pants as well!
