Sneakers have become a canvas for various artists nowadays. Through collaborating with sportswear brands, artists are dipping their toes into luxury retail by designing sneakers. Whether they’re reinventing beloved classics or creating new models altogether, sneaker culture has had a barrage of artistry in recent years. One of the latest of such partnerships was Air Jordan collaborating with graffiti artist Kaws for a one-of-a-kind interpretation of Air Jordan 4.

Release date: November 27, 2017
The collaborative pair wasn’t supposed to be released for public purchase, but when public clamor for them got overwhelming, both the artist and retail brand decided to release them to the public. The officially debuted the reinvented Air Jordan 4 sneakers on November 27, 2017. The became available through various Nike stores worldwide and an online lottery by Kaws. Despite the exclusivity, each pair only costs $350.
Ever seen sneakers glow in the dark? Well the new Air Jordan 4 pair, made in collaboration with graffiti artist Kaws, do. The special edition all-black colorway features a glow-in-the-dark outsole that will be a show-stopping when playing on the court at night. This pair is identical with the more regular grey colorway, both of which feature premium suede uppers for a sophisticated appeal.
Kaws is a well-known graffiti artist and one would think that his collaborative products would feature a lot of colors. Unfortunately, his take on Air Jordan 4 is monotone to a very boring degree. Apart from the more sleek and refined all-black variation (with a glow-in-the-dark outsole), the new Air Jordan 4 sneakers feature little to no change in design concept and silhouette. It’s as if it wasn’t a collaboration shoe at all.
