Whenever designers go for the ladylike look, it’s usually for the ladies who lunch, the modern working woman, or elite society matrons. For spring 2019, Hanako Maeda turned this feminine concept upside down by leading her woman into 90s rave culture, complete with hints of preppy and vintage vibes. Continuing from her resort 2019 collection, she also instilled a bit of Kawaii style onto the mix with the oversized bows and billowy mini dresses. There was an unmistakable subversiveness throughout the collection as sharply-dressed women in tailored PVC pieces walked alongside the flouncy, Harajuku-esque girls in satin and denim. In its entirety, it was a diverse showing of women with the same goal: to live life like a party!
