Whenever designers take inspiration from ballet, they always trot out the same tulle ball gown parades that harken back to Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, or any other ballet from the 1800s. Jonny Johansson of Acne Studios, however, took a totally different spin for his brand’s spring/summer 2019 show. His dynamic, feminine, and colorful presentation looked at ballerinas’ every day lives instead of the show-stopping costumes they wear onstage. From pairing neutral-toned bodysuits with low-cut trousers to comfy oversized sweaters, the collection was a tribute to the dancers—of all shapes, sizes, and ages—and how they live their lives with grace even off stage.
