Strength is hardly what one would usually describe Molly Goddard‘s clothes. Her seasonal signature array of tulle confections are more in the vein of party frocks and dainty cocktail wear than what one would sport during everyday life. However, with her Fall 2019 show, Goddard was determined to change this narrative around her. While it was still the same collection of pouf silhouettes and feminine shapes, she injected a sense of pragmatism to make her looks stronger. “Dressed for the storm,” was what Goddard described her line this season, which meant pairing her sherbet-shaded smocked dresses with grey trousers for that normalcy effect. As her description suggested, the ensembles are more covered up than last season, and instead of the exotic holiday destinations, her woman is staying in the English countryside for fall. She’s also wearing military green nylon outerwear and argyle pieces patchworked and cut together to evoke a more rustic appeal. But by the end, her tulle confections returned in electric hot pink. It seems that wherever she may be, the Molly Goddard woman can’t help but dress pretty. But this season, she also looks strong!
