There are many trends from the nineties and the noughties that are finding their way back to the current decade. Accessories are not exempt—this year, we’ve seen the return of two iconic bags that best encapsulate what fashionistas at the time expected to have and wanted to carry on their day to day: the Fendi baguette and the Dior Saddle bag. What these two had in common, and so did the comparable items to these It bags that were in abundance, were that they were small and short-strapped, often kept tightly by the underarm. The fashion savvy are seeing the benefit to them today, and so can you, with any of these bags that will help you get right in on the trend:
1. Chloé Tess leather and suede shoulder bag
Many fans have been eager to see what Chloé has in store because of the hits we’ve been seeing from the brand recently. This Tess bag, with its chic silhouette and availability in different colors, is projected to be included in the string of successes for the label. Lovely and unique in dark green, the bag will attract attention because of the gold ring that provides a good contrast. There is ample space for your essentials, as well as a handy slip pocket for your mobile device.
2. Alexander Wang Hook small chain-trimmed leather shoulder bag
Alexander Wang gives this shoulder bag some edge, which will make it hard to keep it from sight even when tucked under your arm. Aptly called Hook, it comes in a boxy silhouette that many would appreciate for the room it provides.
3. BY FAR Rachel croc-effect leather shoulder bag
A new brand but already a favorite among celebs, BY FAR recently released a bag that would inevitably make it more well-known beyond Instagram: the Rachel. The name comes from an iconic ‘90s character, Friend’s Rachel Green, and the silhouette from the bags she was often spotted with in the show. The Rachel comes in different versions, but this one in particular stands out for its rich mustard color. Likewise, the croc-effect on the leather is complemented well by the hardware.
4. Prada Galleria mini textured-leather tote
Prada’s Galleria is straight to the point yet chic: everything, from the shape to the material, is just what one would expect a refined fashion lover to have in her collection. Made in textured leather, the bag also is practical—it comes with three internal divisions to provide some semblance of organization for your stuff.
5. Givenchy GV3 small textured-leather and suede shoulder bag
It may be hard to snag the GV3 now, but it’s still worthy of a number on the list. Givenchy hit accessory is just of the right size and has enough space, but what makes it a bestseller is the design that you just can’t go wrong with and quality materials that will leave you feeling stately. This comes with a shoulder strap, but wear it with just the handle to fit in with the It girls.
6. Paco Rabanne Sparkle 1969 sequined faux leather shoulder bag
Looking for sparkle? Paco Rabanne delivers with the bag appropriately dubbed ‘Sparkle 1969’ and hits two birds with one stone: it is retro-inspired and also oh-so shiny. Despite what the name might leave you to believe, this one is actually fresh from the label’s Fall collection. The strap can be adjusted, but keep it short for the sake of the trend.
7. CALVIN KLEIN 205W39NYC Bonnie grosgrain-trimmed leather shoulder bag
Bonnie is available in colors other than neutrals, but we’re picking a lighter version that gives just as much impact as the others. Made in immaculate white leather, the bag has silver hardware that glints every time it gets. It also has ample space for your phone, cards and touch-up essentials, making it the ideal bag to take even on a whim.
There may be a time that the style was considered gauche, but that is a decade long gone. Today, the bags are sexy but also convenient, two adjectives you don’t see often said in the same breath. There’s so much more to do with your hands now that they’re free of weight, and that is something many would find practical for a bag closely clinging to the body.
