8 88 by Comme des Garçons Review
Besides its bottle, the 8 88 would not give the impression of being a Comme des Garçons creation. The mix of oriental and spicy notes in a bottle may come off as heavy, but it does not feel unique to us. Although the opening is interesting, the impression does not hold once the more aggressive green notes make their presence felt. The drydown will have these toned down eventually, leaving a powdery feel more than anything.
Interesting opening because of turmeric
Has average wear time
Drydown washes the harshness of the scent eventually
We feel that the scent comes off as generic
Some would find this to be heavy, and the green notes to be strong
Save Big At:
If Comme des Garçons’ 8 88 evokes gold when sprayed, then it is doing its job. Released a decade ago, it was a fragrance put together by perfumer Antoine Lie. Its notes—turmeric, papyrus, coriander, saffron, incense, geranium, patchouli and amber—may pique initial interest, even if it does not deliver such a unique and wonderful smell. It was made available by the house in two sizes: 50 and 100 ml.
