Tudor has a very special identity that separates them from other brands in the world of luxury timepieces. This Swiss luxury watch manufacturer is known for their range of diver timepieces, with models such as their famous Heritage Black Bay. But beyond this beloved timepiece is another model that has made waves all on its own. Tudor’s Pelagos watch is among one of the best diver timepieces sold in recent years.

Release date: March 2012
Price when reviewed: US$4,400.00

In 2012, Tudor had a grand year for their range of diver watches. During Baselworld 2012, they released a variety of diver timepieces, all of which immediately captured the eyes of clients and enthusiasts alike. One of their stand-out watches at the time was the Pelagos model, which is still sold today. One can get a piece for $4,400 from any Tudor store worldwide or through various online retailers.

Specifications:

  • Diameter: 42mm
  • Movement: Caliber MT5612
  • Water Resistant: 500 meters
  • Power Reserve: 70 hours
  • Frequency: 4Hz
  • Strap: Titanium bracelet
  • Buckle: Folding clasp

Pros

Tudor’s Pelagos was one of the first of its kind to be made within the company. The model officiated Tudor as a true-blue luxury watch manufacturer, complete with its groundbreaking caliber MT5612 movement. The innovative date function, which is located by the 3 o’clock position, jumps instantly. Design-wise, the watch displays classic Tudor aesthetics—dark-toned bezels in black or blue and pristine titanium case and bracelet. For a diver watch, which is essentially a sports watch, the Pelagos has much refinement and sophistication to dazzle any watch collector.

Cons

Uniqueness in design and aesthetic is vital for watch brands to invite new and curious customers. Tudor, however, isn’t necessarily the best at this. Compare to many of their more famous and best-selling models, the Pelagos bare a lot of similarities in terms of overall design. From the dial’ details down to how the bezel is crafted and colored, this timepiece doesn’t stand out as much. One’s money’s worth is due to its technological functions rather than its retail appearance.
