It’s also a limited edition collection of only 1000 piece sold, making it a highly expensive timepiece. The watch is already priced at US$12,600 per item, a new price feat for the Swiss luxury label.
Pros
The classic Polaris Memovox was a hit on its own 50 years ago, and to mark such an anniversary, it has risen from the archives and reinvigorated with modern technology. The watch retains many of the classic’s famous characteristics: it’s 42mm steel case, “Bâton à facette” style hands, subdued cream and black colorway, and its innovative water resistance. Such features that have made the watch a treasure 50 years ago, and will have today’s gentlemen salivating with updated construction.
Its limited production also adds value to the watch, having made only 1000 of it in existence. Goes to show that as approachable luxury brands want to be nowadays, especially to invite a more massive consumer audience, exclusivity is still key to retaining a sense of luxury and to still be coveted. This also means that customers won’t get tired of the timepiece so easily, and might possibly see it as a historic artifact itself in the future.
Cons
As beautiful as the timepiece is, however, it’s not as extraordinary in aesthetics as others might please. Its classic design will resonate far enough for loyal Jaeger LeCoultre admirers, but to reach a whole new and possibly younger customers remain to be seen. Nowadays, people want the newest thing, which may not necessarily always be the finest things. The Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris Memovox is more of the latter than the former, which may not peak a lot of the youth’s interest.
