Description
Many sneakerheads have a love-hate opinion on the Fear of God Basketball All-Star Sneakers. While other people appreciate the classic-basketball-sneaks-meet-Italian-shoemaker vibe and the quality leather of these limited edition pair of kicks, others find them too overpriced for something that looks like a ripoff of its counterparts. With its whooping $1,100 price, we’ll let you be the judge.

There is no doubt that the game of basketball has changed the game for the footwear industry. In fact, the history of basketball can be traced through sneakers that have evolved depending on the nature of the sport and its place in history – be it on the sports or fashion department. Most fashion-forward pieces of today have been greatly inspired by probably the most famous ball game throughout the years, and designer Jerry Lorenzo’s Fear of God’s label is no exception. A cult favorite among the likes of David Beckham, Kim Kardashian, and Justin Bieber, Fear of God’s The 1987 Collection highlights one of the most expensive sneakers on the market today – the Fear of God Basketball Sneakers “All-Star.”

Fear of God Basketball Sneakers “All-Star” dropped just in time to coincide with NBA All-Star weekend where most celebrities and basketball players alike were spotted rocking pieces from Fear of God’s The 1987 Collection – from bomber jackets to ripped jeans, and of course, these limited edition basketball-inspired $1k sneakers.

Pros

At a first glance, you will immediately notice the resemblance of these sneakers to the silhouettes of Air Jordans, that Reebok 80’s inspired basketball shoe, and Rick Owens sneakers, raising speculations all over social media. As Italian designer Jerry Lorenzo disputed himself, however, the Fear God Basketball All-Star sneakers pack were heavily-inspired not by any other designer but by the hip-hop and grunge subculture popularized by the basketball era of former professional players Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony.

These exclusive All-Star high-top sneakers come in multicolor schemes that involves basic hues of black, white, red, and blue. Handmade in Italy, the shoe features high-quality nubuck leather upper and leather lining with custom-molded rubber midsole with heel-branding and slip-resistant ripple outsole. It makes use of medial side zipper vent, a detachable Velcro collar strap, and lace-up closure with white flat laces and metal eyelets to ensure a personalized fit.

Cons

Fear of God Basketball Sneakers “All Star” have that retro yet modern kind of cool, yet it got some sneaker lovers shake their head side to side. Its obvious resemblance to other sneakers makes a lot of people question the label’s own branding and creativity. Some are even convinced that it’s a Walmart version of Air Jordan 1, or Reebok BB 5600 – apart from the highly speculated Rick Owens’ Geobasket sneakers.
