For an industry that dates far back to many centuries ago, it is quite impressive how watchmakers are still able to improve the craft, introduce new designs, and impress customers and collectors alike. While, yes, the mechanical technicalities behind the watch have minimal changes over the years, the imagination and creativity to package the outside differently are one of the main drivers why the industry is continuously thriving.
With many watch brands still in existence today, it only shows how vast and resourceful the capabilities of watchmakers and designers to present newness and incorporate latest trends into a traditional art. Indeed, a household name, Chopard took on the challenge of the skeletonized watch from the past and refurbish it with new found inspiration and elegance. Introducing, the Chopard L.U.C XP Skeletec Watch.

Hailing from the heart of the highly precise craft, Swiss-brand Chopard is backed with a wealth of fine watchmaking since 1860. For watch enthusiasts, the brand is known for its ultra-thin collection, highlighting comfort without compromising technology and style. With the Chopard L.U.C XP Skeletec Watch, it is then interesting how the brand excellently combines this affinity to lightweight, barely noticeable (by the wearer) element, with a skeletonized body. Released in 2012, there are only 288 pieces of this beautiful watch around the world.

Pros
The Chopard L.U.C XP Skeletec Watch sure packs a lot of punch, both in its features and overall design. Made with rose gold, the case houses the skeletonized mechanical, automatic winding movement—the in-house L.U.C Calibre 96.17-S which is thin at 3.30 mm but is powerful with a 65-hour reserve. Adding a break to minimize complexity, the front has a gray outer dial adorned with gold hour markers. On the sapphire crystal, there is a subtle inscription in black of L.U. Chopard.
But more than the front, many agree that the back is more impressive. If you are one to appreciate the intricacy of watchmaking, then you are going to find this magnificent to look at as you see the regulating and rotor system in action. Stylishly marrying black and gray tones with gold, what is striking is the 22K micro-rotor that offers a notable contrast. Completing the look is a fuss-free black alligator strap with rose gold buckle. Overall, the Chopard L.U.C XP Skeletec Watch looks modern yet classic with a hint of sporty vibe.
Cons
If perfect symmetry is what you like, you might be totally put off by the irregularity between 3 and 5 o’clock. Moreover, many have voiced that the Chopard L.U.C XP Skeletec Watch offers nothing really new in the grand scheme of things as it only skeletonized the look and nothing else more.
